I-69 Heads for the Border
Alliance Board Meets with Mexican Officials

HOUSTON, The Board of Directors of the Alliance for I-69 Texas will visit Reynosa, Monterrey and Cuidad Victoria, Mexico Sept. 13-16.  The trip is planned to give board members a first-hand knowledge of what plans Mexico has for highway development.

“The opportunity to visit with our counterparts in Mexico will provide a unique opportunity to discuss issues of mutual interest regarding I-69 and Texas/Mexican transportation issues,” said George Beatty, President of the Greater Houston Partnership’s Chamber of Commerce Division.  “The trip will allow us to strengthen relationships with Mexican officials and to learn of their plans for future highway development,” he added.

Board members will visit a Maquila plant in Reynosa on the afternoon of Sept. 13, then travel to Monterrey, where they will meet with city and state officials.  A reception, hosted by the governor of Nuevo Leon, is planned for that evening.

On Sept. 14, board members will visit various sights in the Monterrey area, then will depart for Cuidad Victoria, where they will be hosted at a reception.  The next day, Sept. 15, will be spent inspecting various new and proposed highway sites and meeting with Governer Tomas Yarrington and the mayor of Ciudad Victoria.  The delegation will return to Weslaco mid-day Sept. 16.

The Alliance for I-69 Texas is a membership-based organization created in 1994 to promote the development of I-69 in Texas.  Membership includes government and business interests from 34 counties in East and South Texas, with administrative support provided by the Greater Houston Partnership.
