Major Studies of I-69
  • Feasibility studies of Corridors 18 & 20 showed positive cost benefit ratios, returning $1.57 and $1.68 respectively for every dollar invested
  • Special Issues study to determine state border crossings and urban issues - complete
  • Record of Decision approving location of Great River Bridge across the Mississippi River - complete

Funding for I-69
  • $4.05 M from ISTEA for Corridor 18 Feasibility and Special Issues Studies
  • State of Texas paid for Corridor 20 Feasibility Study and for location studies; Texas also committed $19.2 M for environmental studies
  • Corridors 18 & 20 have received $214 M from the Corridors and Borders programs in TEA-21 and the Highway Trust Fund -- more than $26.5 M to Texas
  • I-69 will also leverage the $12 million that Texas received in FY ‘02 for border security infrastructure

Current Status of I-69
  • Corridor-wide location and environmental studies are in progress
  • Texas will commence environment & location studies along all 14 SIUs during Fall 2002
  • Some sections are in design, preliminary engineering and construction
