TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles and the Florida Highway Patrol announced the loss of two members on Saturday evening.

According to the two agencies, FHP Private Sean Hryc and compliance investigator Ernest “Ernie” Brown both lost their lives after battling COVID-19.

“Today the Florida Highway Patrol and the FLHSMV family are deeply saddened and collectively heartbroken as we mourn the deaths of FHP Private Sean Hryc and Compliance Investigator Ernie Brown. Private Hryc and Investigator Brown were both esteemed members of the Florida Highway Patrol, selflessly serving and protecting Florida residents for over 17 and 30 years, respectively. Please keep their families and their team members in your thoughts and prayers. “

Private Hryc has served residents of Sunshine State with the FHP for over 17 years. Prior to joining FHP, Private Hryc began his law enforcement career with the Dade Town Police Department.

Compliance Investigator Brown has served Floridians with FHP for over 30 years. Prior to joining the FHP, Brown began his law enforcement career with the Bushnell Police Department and was a member of the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
