The Criminal Branch of the Delhi Police arrested a gang of interstate highway robbers on Monday and arrested two of them for robbing passengers after offering them rides in their low-cost private taxis.
Gang members identified as Mehraj and Gulzar along with their associates recently robbed an Uttrakhand resident of Rs 8,500 and his ATM card after offering him a ride to his destination from Anand Vihar bus station the 14th of July.
They forced the victim to ask his family to deposit money into his account. They withdrew the money and left the victim in a remote location in Greater Noida, after driving him for more than two hours.
The accused replaced the car’s license plate with an old car to avoid being caught. One of the defendants named Mehraj was driving an Ola taxi. He has committed several crimes in the past and has been in prison since 2019. He was released in 2022.
After his release, he again formed a gang and started robbing people. The gang is said to have committed three robberies so far.
The police also seized a Swift Dzire car and a mobile phone in the possession of the accused.
