Groundbreaking Ceremony for 3 National Road Projects Held in Odisha |
** Bhubaneswar: ** The Union Minister of Petroleum, Dharmendra Pradhan, proceeded Thursday to the groundbreaking ceremony (Bhoomi Pujan) on Khandagiri Square for three national road projects of 119.5 km to be built at a cost of Rs. 2,067.5 crore.
The projects are six lanes of the Bhadrak-Balasore section of the NH-5 (new NH-16), six lanes of the Tangi-Bhubaneswar section of the NH-5 (new NH-16) and three underpasses for vehicles in Balikuda, Sikhapur and Badachana of Bhubaneswar – Chandikhole section of NH-5 (new NH-16).
These include four viaducts, 19 underpasses for vehicles, five major bridges, 11 minor bridges and an 83 km service road. It will have the following advantages: generation of better job opportunities; substantial gain in terms of reduced vehicle operating costs (VOCs); and reduction of travel time on roads and traffic congestion.
“The projects will boost the state’s economy, generate employment opportunities and help improve the socio-economic conditions of the population. With the Golden Quadrilateral project, former Prime Minister late Atal Bihari Vajpayee ji gave four lane roads and now Prime Minister Narendra Modi is developing them into six lanes, ”Pradhan said.
He said the national highways would also provide better interstate connectivity between West Bengal, Odisha and Andhra Pradesh.
“The central government headed by Narendra Modi has taken steps for the growth and progress of Odisha, including the development of national highways and coastal highways for better connectivity,” he added.
