Four Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorists were shot dead by security forces during a meeting near Nagrota Toll Plaza in Jammu and Kashmir early Thursday morning. The shooting started around 5 a.m. near the toll booth in the Ban area of Nagrota on the Jammu-Srinagar national road. According to Police Director General Dilbagh Singh, the militants infiltrated last night and were on their way to Kashmir with a huge amount of weapons and ammunition to disrupt the upcoming District Development Council (DDC) polls. and the by-elections of the panchayat.
The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Jammu and Kashmir Police have assisted in the movement of terrorists from the Samba sector to Nagrota Toll Plaza. They were trapped and eliminated.
“This is a JeM group. They infiltrated via the Samba sector last night. The terrorists were stopped at the toll booth, after which they threw a grenade. The army and the CRPF also joined. the operation, ”said the DGP. Indian television.
How did the meeting go?
Mukesh Singh, IG, Jammu Zone, said during a routine check, a truck was pulled over at 5 a.m. “The driver of the truck fled. During the search, CRPF soldiers and police were shot with heavy ammunition and grenades were also thrown. Other forces were called in and the meeting lasted 3 hours, “he said.
Singh informed that 11 AK-47 rifles, 3 pistols, 29 grenades and other devices were recovered from the meeting site. “It seems they had infiltrated with the intention of doing something big and were heading for the Kashmir Valley. The operation is ongoing,” he said.
Singh said the truck driver was running away. An operation is underway to locate him, he said.
“It is possible that they were planning a big attack. This type of seizure is unprecedented. It is possible that they targeted the DDC election. However, we are investigating,” the IG said.
Meanwhile, the Jammu-Srinagar national highway has been closed. No movement of traffic was permitted from Nagrota and the Udhampur tipping area. A team from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) should also arrive soon on the site of the meeting.
Officials believed the modus operandi was the same as used in January 2020, in the same location as a terrorist hid in a truck. “This was an infiltration attempt in which 3 terrorists were neutralized,” said a source.
Earlier Wednesday, 12 civilians were injured in a grenade attack by terrorists on a team of security forces in Pulwama district. The incident took place in the Kakapora area of Pulwama. Police officials said the grenade missed the intended target and exploded on the road. The area was cordoned off and a hunt was launched to catch the attackers.
