NRI found murdered in car near Vijayawada National Highway – The New Indian Express
VIJAYAWADA: A non-resident Indian (NRI) was found dead under mysterious circumstances in his car at the Ithavaram village of Nandigama mandal on the Hyderabad-Vijayawada national highway on Thursday evening. Nandigama police, who have started their investigation into the case, told TNIE that the NRI, identified as Chigurupati Jayaram, 60, was brutally killed by receiving several punches to the nose. Police, who found four bottles of alcohol in the car, suspect the killer of attempting to project the murder as death in a traffic accident.
Jayaram, who lived in Florida, United States, traveled to Hyderabad once a month to review his businesses. He owned a pharmaceutical company – Zenotech Laboratories – in Hyderabad and a few other trading companies in Andhra Pradesh. He was also a director of Coastal Bank and managing director of a vernacular express TV channel until it closed some time ago.
According to SP Sarvashreshth Tripathi from Krishna District, the incident happened around 11 p.m. Thursday. Road patrol found Jayaram’s car parked in a farm field 50 feet from the national road near Ithavaram. When the team found Jayaram dead in the car, they immediately alerted Nandigama police. Using the cell phone found in the car and other documents, police identified the victim and informed his family of his death.
Police said Jayaram left his home in Hyderabad alone on Thursday afternoon. CCTV footage from the Panthnagi tollgate showed Jayaram sitting in the back seat of the car, while an unidentified person was behind the wheel. “After our preliminary investigation, we came to the conclusion that this was a planned murder and that two or three people must be involved in the crime. The autopsy report will determine the cause of Jayaram’s death, ”Tripathi said.
In their preliminary investigation, police concluded that Jayaram was traveling to Vijayawada to attend a meeting on Saturday and also asked the regional manager of Coastal Bank to arrange accommodation for him in the town. The motive for the murder can be established once the alien driving the car is arrested, police said. “We suspect that business rivalry could be the reason for the murder. We are waiting for his family members to reach India, ”said the SP.A case under IPC section 302 has been registered and further investigation is underway.
