Tennessee Highway Patrol opens new Jackson District headquarters
JACKSON — Commissioner Jeff Long of the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security and Col. Matt Perry of the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) announced the opening of the new THP Jackson District Headquarters at 336 Smith Lane, Jackson, Tennessee 38301 The department went bankrupt on the ground at the new headquarters on November 26, 2018. This is the first new headquarters of THP since the opening of the district headquarters of THP Fall Branch in 1982.
“We wouldn’t be here today without the vision, hard work, dedication, planning and persistence of many people and organizations,” said Commissioner Jeff Long. “I would like to thank and acknowledge the Tennessee Department of General Services, architects, contractors and the McKellar-Sipes Regional Airport. We are proud of our new home and thank you for your hard work and generosity in bringing this project to fruition. Finally, I would like to thank former Governor Bill Haslam, Governor Bill Lee and the Tennessee General Assembly. This is a beautiful building that will serve the Tennessee Highway Patrol and the community well for years to come, ”added Commissioner Long.
The new THP Jackson headquarters will replace the old building on Vann Drive, which opened in 1967 and has served the Jackson community well for the past 54 years. However, as the role of state soldiers and their service to their community evolved, the previous headquarters did not provide the capacity or efficiency necessary to ensure that the highway patrol serves the community as required. highest standards.
“The department selected this particular property for its new district headquarters because it was best suited to accommodate the leadership’s strategic plan for future goals and initiatives,” said Col. Matt Perry. “This location provides quick access to Interstate 40 which is very beneficial for THP in terms of maintaining a close working relationship with our law enforcement and TDOT partners in the county area. from Madison. In addition, from a practical point of view, the new location will allow soldiers to avoid the increasingly problematic traffic jams on Vann Drive which have gradually hampered the ease of access to the current headquarters, ”added Col. Matt. Perry.
THP Jackson’s new headquarters will serve as a prototype for THP’s future district headquarters in Tennessee. The THP Knoxville District, which was originally built in 1965, is slated to open early next year. Including the new Jackson headquarters, THP has eight district headquarters.
“Finally, I want to thank our soldiers for being here today to attend this special day. This is your new home and I hope you enjoy it for years to come, ”said Col. Matt Perry.
The mission of the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security is to serve, secure and protect the people of Tennessee.
